MICHIGAN K-12 ADMINISTRATOR CERTIFICATION
AND ENDORSEMENT PROGRAM
(Public Act 335, enacted August 2006)
Michigan's K12 Administrator Credentialing System provides for one K12 Administrator Certificate. In addition, certificate holders are eligible to earn Basic, Specialty, and Enhanced endorsements on that certificate. The certificate itself is earned through:
1. MA in Educational Leadership/Administration OR
2. MA in another area PLUS a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Educational Leadership/Administration
The certificate is the only prerequisite for ANY of the endorsements.
- Basic endorsements are earned through university coursework and are generally considered to be preparatory in nature. They are available for: a) Building level administration; b) District level administrators; and, c) Superintendent level administrators
- Specialty and Enhanced endorsements are earned through administrator professional associations and are generally considered to be performance and impact focused.
Holders of the K12 Administrator Certificate may pursue and earn any of the Basic, Specialty or Enhanced endorsements in any sequence as best fits their career plan and professional learning needs.
